I read this article today and was immediately drawn to the second line in the Heartland Jedi Creed. An alternate line to consider is from the Armonia Jedi Creed which reads "We respect our connected world".
There are a lot of things we do not consider when we're talking about the impact man has on the world around us. This is just one example. I'm not a vegan by any stretch of the word, and in truth, until this article hit I didn't really think about the fact that by us halting a chunk of the world, it may drastically affect a meat industry in such a way that it would bring about this kind of response.
It's a curiosity to me as to what the majority of people in the US would think of this if every adult read it. Would they consider the sanctity of the animal that is going to die simply because they couldn't fulfill their role in the food chain? Or would they look at it from the perspective that it's just tragic for the economy, possibly for their own health if the ends up being a shortage?
As a Jedi, I find this article exposes the truth of how connected everything is to what man does. It's unfortunate that we cannot tackle every problem at once, and have to rely upon others to impact change where it's appropriate. Perhaps the only way the Jedi could is by spreading little-by-little the same message indigenous people also spread: That all life is sacred.
