While growing up in a Christian culture, in which the moral is to sacrifice oneself, I see how this can be destructive for ones self-worth and self-development. Nietzsche called this for "slave morality", and I understand why.
I think, if you have strong self-worth, you`ll easier be able to help others. Self-worth is a big resource to work from!
I see that in psychology it's very important to work with one-self. In a way, psychology could be seen as being "dark side" in that you have to work with developing your ego, rather than simply dismiss it.
I kinda feel aligned with the morals of Darth Revan. How important it is to balance things. How important it is to acknowledge that there is some darkness in the light and that there is some light in the darkness. Like Yin-Yang, a holistic approach is of the essence to understand the bigger perspective of how things are connected.
That also includes helping oneself. And not only others.
While the flip-side of The Dark Side represents egoism, self-indulgence, and pride, I think that in its "pure form" it really represents self-development, self-care, and self-worth.
It's all about how you use it. I think most psychologists, at least, could agree on that.
