The Interview Dream

on . Posted in Light Content. Hits: 953

Have you ever had a dream that just makes you wake up and think "Where did I come up with that???"  I've had my fair share of strange dreams before, and even nightmares that I've wondered how I was so afraid of something so non-scary.  But this morning...I woke up to a very different "huh?" moment.

In my dream, I applied for a position at a mall McDonalds.  I was immediately called by management and asked if I could come in for an interview at the mall.  When I got there, there were other candidates just standing around waiting on their number to be called.  Despite arriving last of the people there, I was somehow the next one up for an interview. As I was called up, this woman came from the interview room and was acting a bit like a Jestor, with cartwheels and waving hands saying all kinds of silly nonsense to get people to laugh.  She approached me and said "it's good interview, and then cartwheeled away.

I walked in, the place reminded me of a recruiters office with the way the desks were set up and the employees were working. They directed me to the back room, where I was set up with a computer....and a chaise.  You know, one of those kinds of "chair beds" you'd see in a therapists' office.  It was weird, but I laid down for this interview, while the conference call began.

They didn't let me introduce myself, they just started asking questions. 3 different people.  I couldn't hear the first two, and I kept asking if they could slow down a bit so I could better hear them over the noise.  However, they didn't, and instead, let the third person ask his question.

I hadn't put on my resume that I was a Jedi.  But the third person seemed to know this, and asked "Who do you believe is best suited to teach at a Jedi Order?  The thief, the owner or the economist?"

It threw me off, and without thinking I shifted in the chaise and stared at the screen suddenly saying "That's such an interesting question!", thinking to myself "the economist!".  But I wasn't quite sure how I would explain my position.  As I contemplated it, the interviewer became excited and said "Yes it is!  The answer is very telling of the kind of person you are."....

Then my alarm went off.  That's how it always works, right?  You get to the good part and it's ruined by real world crashing in on the daily errands you need to accomplish.

As I woke up, my first thought was to the surprise that I could answer that question so freely, and it was almost immediate that I understood why I believed it was the economist which would be best suited.  My second thought was "Thief" and "Owner" make sense, but where did my mind create the third option that the interviewer asked?  "Economist" isn't exactly something I'd think about.  A Physicist, a Doctor, an Engineer, a Janitor, all of these seem like more likely words for my subconscious to choose.  Yet... only after thinking about it for a few minutes did it occur to me that "Economist" was leaps and bounds a better choice than any of them to pit against the other two.

Before you read my answer, think about your own.  Which one, in your mind, would be best suited to teach at a Jedi Order?  The thief, the owner, or the economist?

The thief lacks the basic understanding of Jedi Philosophy, otherwise he wouldn’t have fallen into thievery.  Certainly, he could have been taught once, but his lack of integrity would have been driven towards a field that was more respectable than the common thief.

The owner doesn’t necessarily need to know everything about the business he owns, he is successful only if he recognizes the value of teamwork and surrounds his business with those who have the knowledge and integrity to drive his business to the highest standards..or he can just get by, because he hires the common man and an accountant.

But the Economist succeeds by having an understanding of many of the values within the philosophy, even if he does not live by them himself- his ability to explain something as technical as the economy gives him the edge in being able to communicate the value of the different tenets of Jediism.

Thus, my answer is: The Economist.

1st Breathing Exercise The first step in most Jedi's training is Breath Control. Learning how to breath properly is one of the most underrated, overlooked aspects of training. The reason for this is that breathing exercises are not flashy or exciting. They have no mystique about them. In truth, that
