There is a certain image portrayed in one’s mind when you first think of the word “momentous”. It provides the expectations of supreme importance. When combined with one’s life we are lead to assume significant action that affected not only one’s life but others as well. Whether that action was in a positive or negative aspect doesn’t really matter, because either could be considered momentous.
When thinking of momentous living through the perspective of a Shadow we get something fairly different. Through Shadow eyes momentous living is translated as living in the moment.
What is living in the moment? A blending of multiple facets that when brought together define the way a Shadow walks their daily path. This is not to say that there are no additional facets, yet the ones described below incorporate the strongest sense of the ideal.
When firstly considering living in the moment, the foremost facet that surfaces in thought would be moving with the flow of the Force. The phrase “going with the flow” resonates an entirely new level of meaning here. As one moves with the Force they are being guided by their instinct. A Shadow reacts on feeling, on their sensory perception, on the will of the Force.
For any of this to be possible a Shadow must first be adaptable and flexible to any situation that may come to pass. A Shadow does not concern themselves with occurrences of the past or possibilities of the future. They are ever-present within the moment, thus having the freedom of mind to be able to adapt to whatever may blossom, even (and perhaps especially) if it does not bear fruit.
This is not to say that past experiences or future events are not to be thought of. We live through experience. We must be able to make mistakes and learn from them, so we cannot ignore the past. We also must place consideration into the future, but not so much so that it inhibits our decision-making abilities of the present.
The Shadow view momentous living and living in the moment as mirror images because their greatest amount of attention is in the present. With this heightened attention comes a stronger awareness to details and the stages of life that may be as subtle and vague as a leaf in a stream or as loud and possibly life-altering as a car crash. The Shadow knows that it is not the event itself that is important; it is how you react to it. With the ability to live in the moment the reaction is fluid and concise, not forced and uncertain.
Like I said before, there could be several other facets that might have been listed in this description, but these are the most crucial to the harmony and balance of the Shadow. Without these the Shadow are not moving with the ebb and flow of the Force.
Momentous living is freedom, adaptability and flexibility. It is the path of the Shadow.
