Students, this time I want you all to do this one. You have been given access to this forum so those of you who don't already, use it when the opportunity arises.
Now for the explanation and task.
Today I was thinking of a simple quote, a line out of a song "oooh I'm missing all the things I knew, yet I wish I knew nothing at all"
The song is Three by Massive Attack, a band whose songs I have been associating with much recently. Basically I want you to keep your eyes and ears open, when you find a quote that makes you think, note it down. Give me a post that gives an in-depth lowdown on what that quote means to you and why you associated with it. When I get the time I will post up the meaning of the quote above, the meaning to me at least.

Oh man so many quotes I want to write in here...I have this book called the little Zen Companion and its the most wonderful book 379 pages of the best quotes and stories...Anyway back to the post. Here is my quote.
"He did each single thing as if he did nothing else" Charles Dickens
I'm not sure what novel its from...Anyway I just love this quote. To me it means concentrating on the moment. Whenever I hear it I always reminds me of a poor person (Charles Dickens generally reminds me of the poor) and he got his first job and he wants so bad to do well all he does is concentrate on his work the sounds around he fade out and all he does is concentrate...It pops out at me because it reminds me of such passion such determination. Well that's enough from me for now... I'll post some more of my favorite quotes if Colin will let me : ) hehe. Ok that's really enough now...

The song lyrics that really chill me to the bone are....
They're coming to take me away Ha ha. They're coming to take me away Ho ho, He he, Ha ha. To the funny farm.....
This song just spoke to my soul the first time I heard it. There is nothing more to say but that. hehehehehe

I know the song you are thinking of. For years my mother and sister used to sing that little snippet of it but I never heard the full song until a few weeks ago when I downloaded it. The song is particularly poignent in the rest of its lyrics.....does anyone have a happy song?

don't take that to seriously Colin, I just had to give you a little crap. Lighten up and have some fun my man!!!! :)
To tell you the truth the songs that really speak to me are the ones without any lyrics at all. In the movie "far and away" (I have the sound track) when they start the land race. That's a song that gives me chills of energy. Just something about the way it was written. Be cool Colin ;)

Hello my friends. A favorite quote of mine, which I learned about 2 days ago, hehe, Goes a little like this. "The past is the same as the present, only it has already happened." I really like this quote, to me, it kind of means that when you look to the past, and you think of what you could have done, do it now, because maybe a similar event is taking place as you think, and if you do not act, you may find yourself in the future wondering what you could have done now. well, at least, that is one of many of my interpretations of it. also, the lyrics from a favorite song of mine, go like this.
"O - U - T, but no hard feelings, what do you know? take you away. We're being taking for a ride...again. I have a girlfriend that's better than that.. she has the smoke in here eyes. She's moving up, going right through my house, she's going to give me surprise. better than this, know that it's right. I think you can if you like. I got a girlfriend with bows in her hair, and nothing is better than that."
sorry, I just had to say that. Lafrita thae.

I have a lot of quotes, some from songs and some that aren't. I have them for almost every occasion, probably.
"You know failure isn't failure, when a lesson from it's learned. I guess love would not be love, without a risk of being burned. Everything in life worth having, Lord it has its sacrifice, but the gift that you're receiving is worth more than the price."
"In the darkest hour the soul is replenished and given the strength to continue and endure."
There are many more that I know or have access to. Just ask if ya want a quote on something.

The meaning.
Well I don't know if any of you found this interpretation to the lyrics, but I will share it from my own point of view. The first line of my original quote:
"oooh I'm missing all the things I knew"
Is reminiscent. Thoughts of the past and how things used to be. Something has changed and happened so that the event and/or object/person that created these thoughts is no longer present and creating those thoughts. But the thoughts linger on.
This ties in with lyrics later in the song:
"Soon I'll have that courage,
To leave my thoughts behind."
These thoughts are painful, they remind the person of a time when something good was in place...when their experiences were joyful. Now that they are gone the person is lost in their thoughts, but knows that they cannot remain there forever and will find a way out soon.
Now for the second line of my original quote:
"Yet wish I knew nothing at all."
This is close to thinking of how things could be so much easier if these thoughts and events had not occurred. If the knowledge of them was not present in the person, and goes along with the phrase "What you don't know can't hurt you". I am not debating the validity of that statement but tying in the similar perspective and thought patterns.
Back to the beginning of the song.
"Three's my lucky number,
And fortune, comes in threes
But I wish I knew that number,"
The person knows what they believe to be their strength, that in which they find luck. And they believe that this object/event/person will give them fortune. The real sinker is the last six words. "I wish I knew that number". Sods law, the person believes they know what can help them, the only thing that can help them but they cannot find it, cannot get it right. They seek that which they believe can free them, but it eludes them at every turn.
Maybe all that is needed is the realization that the quest causes the pain. All one needs is the courage to leave it where it should be, take the wisdom and move on. The only thing that can do that is time, and sometimes more than is available, meanwhile we must go on.
Well folks, how about it...to keep you students busy for a little while get your quote, be it the one you posted here or another that you find. To see how it goes try this one long style, an indepth analysis so to speak. Take your time and plan it out.
Take Care and be mindful.
